VPS for game servers

A game server is the rare workload where a single thread decides whether the evening works. The Base plan with a dedicated core — €8.53 per month — is the smallest configuration where the tick rate is limited by the game, not by the neighbour's web scraper.

What this workload needs

Four properties that matter for this job, and how the recommended plan covers each one.

01

Dedicated cores, because fair-share is for web servers

The cpu-mode add-on pins a core to your instance at 1:1 — no neighbour, no steal, no 3:1 lottery. For a 64-tick game server the difference shows up as the difference between a clean leaderboard and a forum thread titled 'lag'. We recommend dedicated cores for live game traffic.

02

Single-thread speed that the genre demands

Game simulation is famously single-threaded, and the EPYC 9354P's boost clock is the highest in our fleet. Geekbench 6 single-core 2,240 is the number; a smooth 20-player Minecraft world is the proof.

03

Ports, UDP and the network that carries them

You are root with the full port range and public IPv4 plus IPv6. The Base ships a 2.5 Gbit/s port with 8 TB of monthly traffic and unmetered inbound — enough for a busy community server, with 10 Gbit/s available on the plans above.

04

DDoS filtering that does not add 30 ms

Volumetric filtering sits in the network path and only engages when the attack is real, so your players' packets are not scrubbed on the way in. For organised targeting, the Advanced tier adds L7 rules for €3.90/mo — cheaper than a weekend of downtime.

DATA SHEET · CONDENSED

The short version

Recommended
Base with a dedicated core — €8.53/mo on the 12-month term. 4 vCPU of which one is yours alone, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe.
Which games
Minecraft, Valheim, Factorio, Terraria, CS2 community servers and similar — anything that fits in 8 GB and likes one fast thread.
Players and traffic
8 TB monthly with unmetered inbound covers a busy community; the 2.5 Gbit/s port is the same class as most game-dedicated providers charge extra for.
Picking the site
Frankfurt for Europe, New York or Los Angeles for the US, Singapore for the region, Seoul for Korean players — pick by where the ping graph flattens.
Mods and control
Full root means mod loaders, plugins and panel software (Pterodactyl and friends) install cleanly. We sell the host; the mod list is yours.

Questions people ask

Four answers per solution, and each one is the same answer support would give you.

Why do you recommend a dedicated core over a faster plan?
Because game servers are latency-sensitive and single-threaded, and a fair-share vCPU can be slowed by a neighbour at the exact moment your players notice. One dedicated core on the Base outperforms two fair-share vCPUs on a bigger plan for most game workloads — and costs less.
Can I run a game server in Docker or need the bare OS?
Both work. Containers are fine for modded setups you want to redeploy cleanly (see the Docker solution), and many panel installs prefer the host OS directly. Since you are root, the choice is yours and reversible.
Do you allow UDP and custom ports?
Yes — every port, TCP and UDP, on the public IPv4 and IPv6. Game traffic is the reason the standard DDoS filter inspects without proxying, so UDP stays low-latency and volumetric floods get dropped at the edge.
What happens to player latency if I pick the wrong site?
You notice, and so do they — which is why migration is cheap: snapshot, deploy at the better site, restore, update the DNS SRV or connect address. The price is identical in all 41 sites, so the only cost of moving is the ten minutes it takes.
